What’s Something People Don’t Know About Your School?-Yale University

“My favorite building on campus is the Beinecke Rare Books and Manuscripts Library, which hosts one of the world’s largest collections of its kind. A little known secret about the library is that, in the event of a fire, the entire collection is doused with a lethal but fire-suppressing gas. In other words, you have 30 seconds to evacuate the building before the oxygen is sucked out of the air by an extremely powerful HVAC system. There is also a popular rumor that, in the case of a nuclear threat to New Haven, the entire manuscript collection will be automatically lowered into a sealed underground vault. The university (mysteriously) does not comment on this matter…”-Sherpa Omeed, Yale University

What’s Something People Don’t Know About Your School?

“Many people are scared of the academic rigor at Yale, but they underestimate the amount of student support. In addition to countless academic and transitional advisors for freshmen, there are so many ways to get free tutoring from certified students in the subject you’re struggling with-peer tutors, residential college tutors, TAs, and specialized programs like the Writing Center. Also (unrelated), the dining halls close at 7 for dinner but you get used to it in the first two weeks and learn to make great use of the school-subsidized snacking areas known as ‘butteries.'” -Sherpa Varsha, Yale University
